The Gathering

IC
Characters: EVERYBODY
Summary: It's been a year since Chaos was defeated and the world was saved. So, naturally, it's time for a reunion party, right?
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: November 1st, 1806
Style: Up to you!

About two weeks ago, an invitation was sent out via skyphone to all of the sky people of Gaia- and a select few natives, too. It invited everyone to Lindblum, for a one year anniversary celebration of Garland's defeat. Such an event couldn't pass by without a celebration, after all. Yesterday, airships had been sent out to the far corners of the world to pick up everyone and bring them to Lindblum. Even the most reticent and party-hating of adventurers won't be able to avoid this. It is a worldwide celebration. Besides, it's best to celebrate with friends.

The Lindblum castle is covered in decorations for the occasion. Most are plain and themed for the upcoming winter, though for some reason, moogles feature rather prominently. Tables set around the ballroom are covered with snacks and foods, from snowmen to more moogles to- are those cookies shaped like Garland on a chobobo? ... Maybe it's best not to ask.

In the center of the ballroom is a clear space for dancing, and musicians sit off to the side and play for those who want to dance. To the side, there are tables for those who are looking for a simple conversation or who are taking time to eat. And, of course, for those who want to get away from everything for a while, there are always places in Lindblum to slip away to. But why would you want to do that, when everyone is here?

Rydia gets a glimpse of that tome, mildly curious but easily distracted. She slips onto the seat, taking a moment to appreciate being off her feet for a little bit. "Just because you're right doesn't mean it was good manners, you know." She grins, just teasing. It's hard to offend her when she's in as good a mood as this.

"But seriously, how have you been?" And no one-word answers. Be social, man.

"I have never professed to be a model of good manners," he retorts, folding his hands on the table before him.

He pauses for a moment, to consider. "I have been... well," he finally says. "There is much to learn in this world, especially because so much of it is not from this world at all."

Rydia nods, resting her chin in a hand. "It's an interesting mixture, true. And for as long as we've been here, there are still little surprises to be found. I'm glad; it would be a shame if there was nothing left to discover."

"It serves for an interesting experience, at least." He does actually look interested in talking about it. It's not difficult to guess what kind of things he's been doing for the past year.

"And yourself? How have you fared?"

"Oh, I'm fine. Alfitaria is prospering, and Cuore is growing like a weed." Rydia's smile is a little wistful, missing how tiny Cuore used to be though there's still plenty of room to grow. "Why don't you visit and see for yourself? You'd be welcome, and could get a chance to continue your explorations."

Hey, if she can't appeal on the basis of family, she'll try whatever works.

He can tell what you're doing there, Rydia, don't think he can't. But rather than pulling back and trying to avoid the prospect, as he would have in the past, he seems to be considering it. "Is she not here with you?" he asks, finally.

[personal profile] mistlegacy 2012-11-03 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, she is. Rosa has her, at the moment." A rueful smile forms. "I still can't get her to wear shoes for long; I think she's already hidden the spares I brought."

"It's a harmless habit, as long as she doesn't hurt herself. She is a child, after all." Of course, Cuore's not the only one who went around without shoes. Though Golbez isn't doing that any more, it seems. He's traded out his old cloak and kilt for something like black mage robes, and he's even wearing boots.

"I know, and I've given up expecting otherwise." Rydia shrugs, figuring that there are other things more worth focusing on than her child's barefooted tendencies. "She seems to be developing an aptitude for Blue Magic, by the way. I'm sure she'll be all eager to talk about it."

"I have no doubt. I may not be a blue mage, but if she wishes to learn more, you may send her to me, if you feel it necessary." He knows a lot about magic, after all, and in the past year, most of what he's been doing is learning more.

[personal profile] mistlegacy 2012-11-03 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or you to her." Again with the offering. Rydia can be persistent when she wants to be...and she usually does. "Maybe you can help encourage her on a different path other than slipping away alone to feed the monsters in order to get them to share their secrets." Because as impressed as Rydia is at Cuore's drive, that's a little too nerve-wracking for her to bear. She's trying her best to at least get Cuore to bring her along, though.

"Or that," he acknowledges. He considers the situation Rydia has described. It doesn't seem like that much of a horrible one to him, for a Blue Mage, but of course, he's not the girl's guardian, and he is not overprotective of anyone unless the situation is dire. "If she is to be a Blue Mage, some degree of that is necessary. What exactly is it about this method that you would prefer she stop?"

[personal profile] mistlegacy 2012-11-04 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"The slipping alone and without notice, first and foremost. I'm also worried about her not being as careful as she could be. Monsters may find her interesting, but I don't want her becoming complacent around them."

"So, in short, you wish for her to have supervision." That, he can understand. Young unsupervised mages can cause explosions. "Do you know of any blue mages who she might learn from?"

[personal profile] mistlegacy 2012-11-04 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Rydia shakes her head. "It's really not a common thing here, so I don't know any blue mages personally. I'll keep trying to ask around, but until then at least having supervision from someone skilled in some kind of magic is ideal."

"Supervising her when you are not able to, you mean." Rydia is rather proficient with magic as well, in his opinion, even if Summoning isn't exactly the same thing.
